It was 1951 when Eugenio Baldessin bought a piece of land in Via Baite to continue the family's agricultural vocation. Basalghelle di Mansuè in the province of Treviso is an area with a strong vocation for viticulture but with hard land to work.
In the 1980s came the revolution led by his son Rino who, always attentive to environmental issues, understood that conventional agriculture, made up of chemical fertilisers and pesticides, over the years would become harmful not only for the environment, but above all for man. As a true pioneer and totally against the trend with respect to the historical moment, Rino dedicated himself in the 1980s to Organic-Mineral agriculture, the mother of today's organic farming.
In 1993, his son Stefano, together with his father Rino, set up the Le Baite farm amidst vineyards and centuries-old hedges, poetry and farming tradition.
We are in the eastern Veneto plain, on the border with Friuli Venezia Giulia. A family-run business that extends over 13 hectares of vineyards between DOC PIAVE and DOC PROSECCO TREVISO.
50% of the vineyards are white grapes with Prosecco, Chardonnay and Verduzzo; the remaining 50% red grapes with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and the indigenous Raboso Piave. 13 strictly certified organic labels, in the different types: Bubbles, Monovitigno and Selections.
Le Baite is located 70 km from Venice, just 30 km from Treviso and the 'Prosecco hills' of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, a Unesco heritage site.
Not happy enough with organic farming, the Baldessin family decided to approach the vegan philosophy; no products of animal origin are used either in the field or in the cellar.
Passion, attention to the environment and rigour in the processing characterise Le Baite, one of the first farms to obtain organic certification in Italy, as testified by certification number 00091, issued by the 'Suolo e Salute' organisation.
